Hi! I’m Mariah and I currently live in CHATTANOOGA.

RESOURCES NEEDED:

1. I’m moving into the PR/marketing phase of sharing The Pattern Shop and I’d love to be a podcast guest or share more about the story, the self-publishing process, or even do a live Q&A for your book club! Reach out to me at info@mariahfriend.com with ideas for collaborations! If you’ve already reached out in December, I’ll be following up with you soon!

2. Encouraging quotes or stories about people overcoming difficult times. I’d love to hear what words of wisdom or examples of resilience are helping you get through.

3. Ideas for cute, comfy clothing options for my changing body! I’m considering a Nuuly subscription but open to other ideas. Ideally clothing that would be able to adapt (not maternity clothing, though) and be something that feels good wearing around the house or out and about.

RESOURCES OFFERED:

1. I can do a quick edit/pass on one person’s query letter + first page to give an added perspective if you’re querying!

2. I can offer 1 person a 1 hour, informal Q&A to share what I’ve learned about the self-publishing process.

3. I can offer 3 people free spots in the Heartbeats Community Bulletin Board throughout September to promote your work or offerings. Fill out this link for more info (ignore the paid sub part, happy to offer this without upgrading your subscription). 😊https://forms.gle/9RvsEos5CrEM1ZJR6

RESOURCES NEEDED:

1. I have been interviewing people to create a podcast, but I am just dreading editing them. Would love either an editing lesson or to trade for editing help.

RESOURCES OFFERED:

1. One hour health coaching session. I'm an MD and herbalist, amongst many other things, so can really look holistically at your wellbeing.

2. One session of Dagara divination (about 1.5 hours). Hard to describe what this is, briefly here, but happy to answer questions.

Hi Amy, I was just thinking yesterday I need some holistic health help. I would love to take you up on the coaching offer. Happy to share more details and discuss.

I could help with thinking through your podcast episode arcs or content, but afraid I only have basic audio editing skills!

Great, I’ll DM you this week to coordinate. Probably sometime in early February would work best.

I did a Nuuly subscription for one year. It was around the time my dad had passed and my body was changing and I wanted much comfier clothes but didn't know what to get ... so I tried a bunch of different stuff. I stopped after a year because of cost but it was totally worth it to find things that felt good to me in a new body/ phase of life.

Thank you! I think it’ll help with my self-esteem while I’m shape shifting. Glad you had a good experience with it! ☺️

I am currently in my flowy era ... I recently discovered silky matching jammies sets and I basically want to live in them :)

I have very little clothing wisdom to offer, but this dress is comfy and flattering. I've been thinking about buying it in multiple colors. https://www.quince.com/women/women-s-tencel-jersey-midi-wrap-dress?color=dark-olive

Also, this isn't adversity per se, but it's something I return to when I start feeling like "it's all down hill from here." It's a series of stories about women who reinvented themselves after the age of 50. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/lifestyle/women-over-50/

Thank you for sharing! That dress looks very cozy. And I'm 100% here for stories of women hitting their stride, in any season! 💗💪

Hi Mariah,

So excited to speak to you live later this week. It is going to be fun!

On clothes, I came across this writer in another community, who might have ideas about comfy dressing for a changing body: https://redressing.substack.com/?utm_campaign=profile_chips

On resilience, I think its hard to find examples that really hit. I think so many resilience stories are, I went through this one bad thing and then everything was amazing and I met my husband and I got my book deal (blah blah :).

My own life experience has been nothing like that. I don't feel very inspired by lots of people's ideas of overcoming hard times.

Writing the piece about hope with other writers last year helped me. I think especially some of the books I quoted in that piece - Joanna Macy, Mariame Kaba, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha and Rebecca Solnit. I know you have read this piece before, linking it incase you want to follow the links to any of these ones: https://notesfromcatriona.substack.com/p/hope-a-scrapbook

Atm I quite enjoy listening to podcasts about people who do insane adventures like swim the amazon or climb everest, because it reminds me that lots of people do not have 'normal' lives and that they kept going despite it being insanely hard.

I also think good poetry helps.

And moving in a lot and in different ways.

Am preparing my resources - will share more soon!

I'm excited, too Catriona! So resonant for the times we're living in!

Oh, good poetry always helps, doesn't it? Are there poets you're particularly drawn to these days?

Thanks for sharing the Substack about dressing for changing bodies. What a great resource!
